2010 Annual Spring Benefit a Success!

More than 70 individuals joined us at the Houston Racquet Club on Tuesday, April 13 for the Lee Next Step Fund's 3rd Annual Spring Benefit. Check out pictures of our event here on our website!

Besides the exquisite venue, food, and unprecedented support for the non-profit, the highlight of the evening included student testimonials about how the Lee Next Step Fund has given them the opportunity to experience life-changing college-prep programs. Lee alumnus, Cheikh Beye (class of '09) closed the program by saying, "I believe it is only right for me to give back to the community and to make sure that young people that follow in my foot steps have the same opportunities as I did," as he urged attendees to show their support. Cheikh attended Youth About Business at the University of Houston and Vanderbilt University. Now, he is a general studies major at Texas A & M, and an active senator for the university campus.

THANK YOU to all who have supported this initiative this year. With your help, we will impact more Lee students.

Are you a Lee Alum?

We'd love to hear from you!LeeOldPic

Lee High School is a Houston high school legacy. Founded in 1962, Lee is the alma mater of a large and dynamic group of citizens across our city, state, and country. While the "Lee today" is drastically different from the Robert E. Lee that began years ago, our commitment to excellence hasn't waivered. Our hope is that all Lee alumni, regardless of graduation year, encounter success in their own lives and contribute to the future success of generations to come.

If you are a Lee Alum and would like to find out ways that you can support the Lee Next Step Fund or simply connect with other Lee Alum doing so, please contact us.

Why our work is so important...

Approximately 50 percent of students in low-income communities will not graduate from high school by the time they're 18 years old 1.

----------

Those who do graduate will perform on average at an eighth-grade level 2.

----------

Of the 13 million children growing up in poverty, only 1 in 10 will graduate from college 3.

Lee High School in southwest Houston serves the highest percentage of students in Texas that are economically-disadvantaged, at-risk, and English language learners. Every school year and every day are critical for Lee students to learn the knowledge, skills, and habits they need to defy the odds described above, and encounter success in high school and beyond.

The Lee Next Step Fund works to connect these students to life-changing learning experiences that challenge their minds and build their futures for success, all while they are still in high school. You can help us.
